20-120 x Lawn Chamomile Plug Plants (Treneague) Non Flowering

The flowering chamomile of both the Roman and German varieties can grow up to 24" and would not really be tidy enough as a lawn although they are delightful in their own right and are widely used in natural remedies.

Please note: The plants are changing daily as the roots develop so the plants you receive might look a bit different.

Low Growing

This cloned variety Treneague will grow to only 6 cm but far less if it is walked on occasionally.

Treading on the plants also helps them to spread as this pushed the stems close to the soil where they will root easily. - But not too much in the first year! If any of the offshoots snap when walked on, simply plant the stems into the ground and they will root too - increasing your stock.

Perfect for the lazy gardener but not used for tea making or any medicinal use as this requires the flower production.

We do supply the DRIED CHAMOMILE FLOWERS in our shop which are perfect for a cuppa.

Ideal for hayfever sufferer, as they don't produce pollen.

Planting

Fully hardy and can be planted as soon as they arrive through your letterbox.

The rosette cuttings can be planted 6" apart but you can gauge how quickly you want cover.

The closer you plant the faster the cover.

We have had plants 1 foot apart and these have bonded well, it just takes a bit longer!

These plants will take a few weeks to establish so please don't be too worried if they look a bit lost, they will soon pick up.

Clear any weeds before planting and keep an eye on the bare soil making sure that weeds don't get a hold, especially deep rooted perennials.

Plant from March to September keep an eye on the watering for a few weeks after planting, especially in dry spells, try to not let them dry out but don't let them sit in water either... A sunny site will help the plants to grow.

Put the plants fully into the soil covering the roots and the white part of the stem keeping the leaves touching the soil. This ensures a strong rooting base for the plants.

They will thrive in well drained neutral or slightly acid soil.

IT'S SLUG TIME! Protect the plants from slugs and snails. Chamomile isn't their first choice but as you know they will give anything a nibble! Also look out for a few greenfly.

There will be a residue of the soil the plants were grown in. This is my own blend of natural compost from the garden so might have the odd piece of eggshell in in, sometimes a small brandling worm (but not often!)

Care after planting

The plants will benefit from being trimmed, either by hand or a mower once or twice a year. The apple scent is lovely when the plants are trodden on and when established it makes a very restful place to sunbath The plants will also look very attractive in containers.

Increase Your Stock

When the plants are established you can lift up the runners and you will find that these will have rooted in the same way you received our plants. These can be used to increase your stock and either expand your lawn or fill in bald patches. This is an ideal way to keep costs down as repairing the lawn will be an annual event.

The bare rooted plants will be dispatched by first class post in an envelope with moist tissue. I'll pick the plants on the day you purchase and put them straight in the post. Please allow an extra day from the estimate on the postage page as the package is coming from Northern Ireland.

Please open the pack as soon as they are delivered. It is important to take the plants out of the container on delivery as they could rot with the lack of air circulation.

They might look a bit stressed but will soon pick up when planted. There is generally yellowing to the leaves on arrival which will either die off or you can pick them off.

If the weather is bad they could be kept damp or "heel" the plants as a group into either loose soil or a plant pot with compost in it.

The plants will be picked, packed and shipped on the same day, usually the day you order (if it's still light).

First Class delivery and recycled packaging is included in the price. We do not make money from postage.

Plants will vary slightly from the images.

NOTE: The plants will come 5 in a paper roll to save weight and so they have a bit of company in transit)

If you are not happy with the plants on arrival, please send me a photograph of the plants and the postal arrival date.

PACKAGING

I understand the value and importance of recyclable/biodegradable packaging and strive to make it 100% when possible.

The plants are grown as organically in sustainable compost with natural fertilizers.

The room for improvement will be in packaging materials.

At present we use recycled/recyclable boxes which help to keep the plants healthy and not too flattened in transit.

Areas for improvement are the plastic inserts.

Currently we are using single use plastic in the bags and the Sellotape is the normal single use stuff too. We are constantly on the lookout for more eco friendly products to use and are open to suggestions.

The paper towel used to wrap the plants is recycled.

The amount of plastic we use is kept to a bare minimum for safe transit of the plants, but we know more could be done. I will update this when we source new eco plastics to use.
